I'll get us started, shall I?
I'm not sure this is the best idea, but I'm going to share this with you anyway. You might think I'm insane, or you might be interested. Or then again, you might just dismiss it.
When I was little, I lived in a big three floor house, which was about a hundered years old. I remember this quite clearly, up until the focal point, that is. After that, it just dissappears, and I have no memory. I had woken up in the middle of the night after a nightmare. Still being quite young, my first reaction was to call my mother. I can't remember the dream itself, but it must've been what made me afraid to shout out, cause I do remember being afraid that if I shouted it would let something know where I was. So I tried whispering, hoping that she'd hear me somehow. After a while, I realised that she wouldn't hear me, but I was convinced that I couldn't shout. So I decided to go to her. Now this house could be really quite creepy, being to big and old, and without a light it was impossible to see where I was going, so I had to stumble through the hall to my mother's room. I pushed open the door and scanned the room before clambering into bed between my parents, who barely stirred. I was sitting up in the bed, letting my eyes get used to the dark, when I noticed a figure at the other side of the room. I remember being scared at first, but then she looked at me, and I wasn't afraid anymore. The two of us stayed completly still, me taking in this girl, who wore an old fashioned yellow gown, and had her hair piled on top of her head. At this point it gets very very blurry, I think I remember her moving towards me, but it's kind of hazy, so I'm not sure if that's a memory.
I have no explantation for this story, as the natural human reaction is to rationalise, so that part of my brain tells me that it was just childish imagination, or perhaps a dream. But then there's another part of me that thinks it is possible that I saw some kind of ghost or spirit. I tend to change my mind a lot when it comes to things of this matter, involving spirits and so forth, depending on my state of mind. At this moment I believe I did see something, but ask me tomorrow, and I'll probably tell you I imaginded it.
What do you think?

Wow...... This is the kind of a contact with the other world I`m seeking for I belive in anything I see . Or to be exact what I hear . The only visual contact with the ghost of my house - my sister saw it . I only hear it and know all about it I know that it is a good tended ghost or polterghaist because of it`s apearences , and now that is a factor that tells you the most . At the least I have finally learnt to read signs . And after reading your story I got to know that that lady you saw is a good tended ghost too . To exam it closer I would need some detales like firstly - have you seen it more than once and anything else you acn tell me . The ghost of my house makes visual and physical contacts only with my sister but I can hear it . And Lossy , did you know that ghosts can be seen mostly only by little children and animals . My guess is that happens because they are only ones to belive in these things . This ghost of my home "lives" in the 3rd floor and once I cought my dog stareing at the 3rd floor with those big , shining eyes and trobouled looks in them and ears pointed forevards . It was just stareing at nothing in the 3rd floor . And my sister saw it only when she was about 5 or 6 . And I don`t quite yet know why but this ghost follows us . He firstly apeared at our apartment , afterwards at our old house it was still there and finally it lives with us here - at our house . Ok . This is what I had to write this time . If any of you have a question conserning ghosts/spirits just ask -Ophelia-

I didn't know that about kids and animals, but it does makes sense. When I told my parents about it they just said I must've dreamed it, which was more or less the first time I doubted the existence of spirits. I don't think I did ever see it again, we moved out of that house when my parents divorced. Although there was one time at one of my 'famous' Halloween parties when three of the girls got locked in the bathroom, and no one could hear them shouting cause of the music playing. But they got out somehow, and the door could only be opened from one side. One of them was talking about my Halloween parties yesterday and reminded me of it, but she doesn't remember it enough to give any more details. We'd all just assumed it was coincidence... I kinda wish I still lived in that house now. That's so cool you have one that more or less lives with you. Have you ever done a ouiji board? Those things scare me, so I've never actually done one for real.

I've never seen a ghost, though I have often suspected them. This house is old and very creaky you see (and infested with mice, but that's another matter) and seometimes its hard to work out what exactly is making all the creaking.
Some nights I get unusually jumpy and can't stand still for a second or I get some kind of paranoia that something's creeping up behind me, but I usually put that down to being tired.
One of the most paranormal thing we've had happen was probably a light going mad, it was constantly flickering and it went on like that for half an hour until dad turned it off. I only know of one person dying in this house and I don't think she was the haunting type. Next door, however, a headteacher hanged himself (it used to be a barn) and just down the road (well, half a mile) another headteacher hanged himself. That school doesn't seem to keep its headteachers very well does it?
Do you know if there's anything that decides who will become a ghost? Or is it random?

Firstly Lossy - I don`t do any of these spirit contacting things , but I have tried only one - the needle swinging . It`s the only one that is quite harmless . I belive in God and it is said that he doesn`t like these things . And that`s not the only reason - every time you try to contact a spirit the portal between this world and the "other'' world and other spirits get out trough it even if you do not call them . And these spirits start living inside you and feed on your enrgy , fear and emotions . It empties the human it lives in and there is a re-e-eally long way to get it out and recover . And Dragoneyes - I don`t know enough about you`r case and anything about the persone who died at your house but there are somethings that might say . Maybe you are wrong - maybe that persone could be the haunting type . You never know . And people do not become ghosts just because they are haunting types , some people haunt their old houses or or other places preciouss to them just because they do not want to leave them , they just keep an eye on these places for nothing to go wrong or they are bounded to these places like in Lossys case (my idea) . Those ghosts do not mean harm to living ones . They just simply can not leave . And finally not all people become ghosts . And there are 2 types of polterghaists/ghosts - harmless ones and evil ones . Evil ones - those who have done something bad (really bad) in their life times and have been kicked off the paradise or they are simply too bad to have some rest even at their graves . They come back and and keep on torchering their relatives and suck the energy out of them and they feed on energy that comes from fear so they scare these people . These ghosts are hard to get off but it is not impossible . And there are good ones - people who as I said do not want to leave or people who have died before their time and now are forced to walk around like ghosts untill their death has been revanged or their time has finally comed or somebody has to pray for it`s soul . But most of people go to heaven (or hell ) because somebody prays for their souls . But sometimes that is just not enough . I belive you will not become a ghost . And pleace do notice : nobody has comed from there to state what happens to us when we die and what are ghosts so these are just my and a big bunch of scientist thoughts . -Ophelia-

I don't know if I'm really the only one here, and I probably am, but I'm somebody who does not believe in the supernatural. Whether it be ghosts, spirits, God, or anything else- I don't think it exists. I think there's a rational scientific explanation for all this that we humans, as a collective, are too dumb to figure out. Don't stone me. *dodge and run* -Menelien

I don't believe in contacting spirits and whatnot, I do believe in God though. I've never actually stayed in one place long enough to find out if there was a spirit there, so, I guess that has made me rather dubious of the whole situation, but well.. I am just human. I have heard things when in the deeps of the night though, but I could hardly call them spirits, what with all the boxes piled around stuf falls and makes noises. I sort of wish I had a nifty story to tell like that, but I don't. *shrug* Guess it happens when you move every 5 seconds... ¬.¬

*throws everything can get hands on at a running GaladrielOlden, including her half eaten sandwich* How...dare...you...have...di...fferent...views...from...us. *falls down exhausted, and lies sprawled on the floor* lol. Just kidding. I like to hear people's views, especially if they're different or more knowledgeable than mine. On that note- Ophelia, I am soo impressed with your knowledge about this! I have to admit, although I am pretty much obsessed with philosophy and the supernatural, ghosts don't generally hold as much interest. Possible cause I've known so many people/things that have died, and it really freaks me out sometimes...you know how you just sometimes get a feeling that someone's watching you, but in a nice way? That's kinda why I'm not as interested in this as I otherwise would be. I end up worrying about the people who've died. Do you know if suicide would affect anything? I never liked ouiji board and the like, but after that, I am never ever going near one. Not that I ever did, but that's irrelevant. I don't believe in God either, but that's more personal than anything else. I used to believe, but I never got anything from God, and it led me to the distinct impression he/she wasn't there, or was choosing not to listen. And what I was saying was pretty damn important, so I lost faith. "...My prayers rise heavenward seeking the gateway of a God who takes pleasure in Wickedness..."

Well GOTO and Elvish Hobbit , People can have other opinions but how can you say that these things do not exist if you have never expierienced anything like this ? Do not take this personal but that is my opinion about all supernatural . Maybe it is not supernatural . I really agree with you GOTO - our little brain are too conservative and full of ambitions that we do not want to and just are not able to understand these things . Maybe they are really un-supernatural . Well anyways , we still got time to figure things out . And concerning these suicidal things Lossy , people who kill their selves become ghosts in thebiggest (and I mean BIGGEST) part . It could be because ghosts haunt houses and places do they not ? And people who do suicides are haunted with some idea too weather it is unhappy love story , losses in life or the stupid idea of ''no one loves me and nobody cares weather I die or not". There is allways someone who does care . So that thought is stupid . You do not belive in God so I do not think it will make much use to say that those who have killed their selves do not go to heaven so they have to stay down here and haunt other people untill their real time has come to die or untill forever , for these spirits do not find comfort and peace . Sometimes it hepls to pray for a soul like this but that can only help sometimes under some conditions . And God ... I am not trying to say you are wrong for you do not belive in God but I was wondering , these things you were asking for , were they possible to fulfill ? I know a girl who lost her faith in God just because he let her OLD and really ill dog die . I know I was angry because my cat was ran over by a car but it is kinda easyer to have somebody to thak to for all the good times that you should not forget on the font of these bad things and somebody to blame for all the bad that happens . And hay ! I do not spend a lot of time on researches on these things , it`s just that I have read so much and thought about this soooo much that I just know stuff ... And if you are interested in these things and want to see some ghost pictures I can give you a adresse for a web page . And finally as I said - those oiji boards and those kind of stuff are all re-e-eally bad . I have tryed the needle swinging thouh and nothing has happened to me ;D If any more questions about any other supernatural thing just ask here or make a new thread -Ophelia-

No, I knew someone who did, that's why I was asking, cause the house where it happened feels kinda creepy, and I wasn't sure wither that was a phycological thing or not...
And I believe the things I asked God for were reasonable, I didn't ever ask for the world to be changed or anything. But they were still important to me, and it seemed that whatever I said had the opposite result. In a lot of ways I had an extremly unhappy childhood, and I suppose I needed to blame God for not helping out a little, cause I was never selfish and as a child didn't understand why God would do those things to me. Perhaps I'll find God in some other form, but to be honest, I'm completly against organised religion, so Christianity ain't for me. If anyone thinks this topic is worth discussion, we could talk about in the 'Follow the white rabbit' as religion falls more under that.

Well as there is said : what doesn`t kill you makes you just stronger . I know that I didn`t have the best childhood myself and I have so many things I wanted to happen (reasonable and possible things) that God didn`t fulfill even after praying so amnt times but still I can only remember the ones he did fullfill and I couldn`t say those things are small kind of things ... Btw , we could make this discussion but I do not know is it right . It will sound too much like me trying to convince you to belive in something you do not belive in . And even God himself doesn`t like loud preaching about him and how much you belive him and I do not like it either . But it depends on about what exactly will this discussion be . -oPHELIa-

I personally do not belive in ghosts. Many of the stories of people seeing ghosts are made up or have a logical explanation. I'm not trying to condemn anyone or anything. However, I belive sometimes Satan plays tricks in our minds to try to make us belive things that aren't there.
I do, however, belive in spirits. But only one: The Holy Spirit.
Lossentilien- I feel sorry that you lost your faith in God. I can assure you that He does listen and cares deeply for you. He may not answer all you ask when you want and how you want, but, He does answer prayer. I know from experience. I wouldn't be the person I was today if it wasn't for God, and his son, Jesus Christ, who saved me from Hell.

To what you said earlier, Ophelia-
The reason I do not believe in ghosts or anything of the sort is that there is no scientific explanation for them. I don't trust scientists all that much, really, but there is no logical explanation for them and I think they can't exist.
As for the reason I don't believe in God- I don't know the reasons for anybody else- it's rather simple. I used to be Jewish. I wholeheartedly believed in all the values. I still go to a Jewish school. But then, after a few years, I suddenly realized that there was no way God could exist (NO OFFENSE MEANT, anybody who is religious), that if he did, it didn't matter anyway, that the values of the Bible did not speak to me, and became an atheist. Also, so much damage is caused because of religioun and religious people, that I really don't think it's worth it.
A song which, I think, reflects my feelings about religious pretty acurately... Dear God by XTC. (Song found courtesy of Beren.) If you think you'll be offended, DON'T READ IT. And don't flame me, please...
