Erm....the closest I've come to Vampires, and probably the closest I'll ever be, is reading Vampire books, mostly by Anne Rice..

Humm-hee ... That`s the closest we`ll ever get (but maybe who knows what comes across our paths... ) But still I don`t mesn you have to write about your contacts with these creatures of the night , though if you have something interesting to say about this - go ahead . Mostly this is where you can tell what you know , ask something to somebody or even express your crush on them , whatever Thank you for posting ! Ophe

Well, seeing as not many people are going to experience vampires (other than a shadow on the wall or something) then I shall say what I think a vampire is and what they can do.
First of all, I don't think they can turn into bats because that's just cheesey. They can live with and look like bats but turning into them just doesn't seem right.
To be turned into a vampire, you need to mix the blood. Some people would say that you'll turn if they just bite you, but that's werewolves. If they just bite you then you die of blood loss.
I have read stories in which Vampires sry tears of blood, but I don't think that can be true, because the tears ducts just aren't linked to either the digestive system or the network of veins and arteries.
Linked to the subject of crying, I wouldn't think vampires cry at all being the soul-less demons that they are. They probably still have some kind of twisted love, or link with those that they loved during life, but they wouldn't care for their feelings, just want to turn them into vampires as well.
Garlic would do nothing to them, except perhaps it could be used in spells against them (if you're going to have vampires, why not magic?). Killed by a stake through the heart or decapitation and really don't like fire, sunlight or anything to do with religion.
I'm probably influenced by TV programmes and movies, but that's what I think. Does anyone know anything about the history of vampires? That could be interesting.

I actually agree to all you have said , like that vampires do not turn into bats and do not cry or feel emotions other than pain , anger and all the negative ones .
The history of vampires ... I myself do not belive in count Drakula as in the type of living in Transylvania . Even though I can give something like what I`ve heard of the stupid bed side story - there was a mad count and he started to drink blood and so on and so on . But the real thing I belive in is that the first vampire was Judas Escariot (sorry if spelling wrong - my english sucks quite plainly) was damed . He gave Jesus to the trile after which he was killed on the cross . He understood what he had done and he hung himself . But God did not let him die . He cursed him with eternal life in the shadow and never to see the sun again and also to live forever with his guilt . And he started to kill God`s children (humans) by sucking out their blood as a revenge . He hates silver and things made of it for he selled Jesus for 40 silver coins . And he can`t die (exept by silver , sunlight , sarcet water , fire and oaken sticks for he hung himself in an oak tree) for he is cursed . He was left motionless with only anger , despise and hatred to God , which explains he`s hate to things religious . Judas want`s to do God harm and to hurt him by making some chosen ones suffer all that he is suffering .
That is about it . anymore questions ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ?

I never knew that. I searched google for the history of vampires and only found things about Count Dracula, who was, as it turns out, based on a Romanian prince called Vlad Dracula. He didn't do anything like drink blood, he was just extremely severe in the punishment of his people. It earnt him the name 'the impaler'.
He planted a forest on the border of his land so that attacking armies had to march through it to get to him and he put anyone who broke the law in there for show. And I mean anyone, children, pregnant women, men of all ages. He would stick them on a stake from their bottom to the top of their head (hence impaler). Other punishments included skinning, removing genitals, limbs, tongues, fingers, the usual. It is said that due to his bloody nature he became known as a vampire.
Another person on whom count Dracula was based was Elizabeth something-or-other who was a countess from Tranzylvania (I really cannot spell that country) and she found that bathing in a young girl's blood made her look younger... yeah, whatever, and so she frequently got girls in, tortured them, bled them ie. cut them and pierced them a lot and had very literal blood baths.
Anyhow, that's the history of just one vampire (where the turning into a bat came from I have no idea) there really are some not very nice people out there.

Well this is what I have belived all the time and this was the most racional history of them . Glad I could tell you something unheard .
About the bat thing - that is a really old mith (somewhat at midieval) for bats feed on blood and there is tis saying "blood-thirsty" and it connects . Like vampires are "blood thirsty" (reversed meaning) and bats are blood thirsty literary . People wanted to explain this bat strangeness in choice of food so they compared vampires and later on it became "obvious" that bats are vampires .

Vampires! My favorites! Wow! Ok, I played Nocturne, freaked me out. I've seen Dracula and lots of other movies with vamps, freaked me out, visited some castles in my native country, Romainia, which btw includes TRANSYLVANIA too. (we romainians spell it TRANSILVANIA, and we prononce it differently.) Ok, so vampires are the best dark creatures. Let's get some things cleared up. Vlad the Impaler, or Tepes as we call him has been oftenly depicted as the bloody count Dra-Dracula (L Nielsen movie ;D). Firstly, he was the ruler of the lower part of Romainia and not Transylvani between 1456-1462. He ruled for some weeks in 1448, he was betrayed, he came back, ruled for those six years, then he was betrayed again (by the boyars, the rich ppl of Romainia) and taken captive. He was held in a castle in Transylvania during that time, The Bran Castle, which I have seen (it's beautiful). After some years he was released by his cousin Steffan the Great, the ruler of Moldavia (a romainian province). He then ruled, for a month in 1476, was betrayed again and killed. He battled with the turks a lot and had lots of victories until the turks asked for peace. He was fair, very fair, but very cruel. It was said that if u had left a bag with money on the street during that time u would have found it even after a month in the same place. Why? Because murder, thievery, rape and other evils were punished very brutally, almost inhumanly. I mean, he use to cut the hands of the thieves, the head to the murderes and the .... to the reapers. Well, but the most common penalty was the impalation, which gave him his name. Tepes means in english, not Impaler, but high, sharp pole. Let me tell u how he used to impale those ppl. In all the movies u can see ppl impaled on their backs or bellies, right? It's false, it's a fantastic lie to make the movies more cheesey. In fact, the pole was beign struck with large hammers on the victim's bottom (or excuse my language, butt - hope I won't have probs for this). Anyway, the pole penetrated the body and it usually rose up in the skull, throat, mouth and all. Get the picture? Anyway, his enemies used to make stories about him: that he used to eat flesh and drink blood. Well, they were impaled also. And no record states that Vlad used to drink blood and all. Dracula, is in fact a woman. Some say that are the evils comes from women. Now they are right. Dracula was actually Countess Elizabeth (like Dragoneyes said) de Bahory, from HUNGARY. The country which has taken Transylvania from the romainians; we took it back Anyway, as Dragoneyes said, she used to bath in virgin girl blood to keep herself younger. And that's not the only thing she had done (inhuman I mean). I fu guys, want me to tell the others as well, say so, because I won't do it unless I'm requested. Many are gross, yes... So, in conclusion there's no vamps in Romainia; too bad; I would have made a great vamp hunter.

Since Ophelia asked me so nicely to freak her out and I can't refuse a lady, I will. Still, I won't swear here, or in the presence of any lady, girl or woman.
Okay, the countess used to have this big, scary castle with a large garden. Later on, when the garden has been dug up they have discovered caskets. In the caskets, the digger have found skeletons. Nothing freaky until here, yes? Well, studying the stains and the marks on the skeletons they have determined that: The countess was sick. And I mean sick: these were girl skeletons, about 18-20 years old; cause of dead, lack of air; cause for the lack of air--- frozed in ice. The countess had this big fridge were she hold the later vicims fresh... ready for the meal, eh. Well, that's the nice fact: the ppl also discovered there some Iron Maidens (not the band, preciouss), torture devices: a big casket with stakes on every wall. The door was closed and the blood collected in a reservoir for later use. The countess was not alone in all this, no preciouss, she had this vamp butlers who shared her passion for anatomy. Some say, she used to have sexual parties in blood (gross, man). And I mean lots of it; it took about 500 l of water to wash all the blood away. Well, other say she liked to eat flesh; maybe this isn't so true, but still... I don't recall right now all the things this Vampire-sex-blood countess has done, but I'm going to do some more research.
And guys, I hope nobody has lost s/he's lunch for reading this.
