Which chapter is your favorite in the Silm, and why? I just love the chapter concerning Túrin Turambar. I almost cried at the end though. It's such a tragedy, but I love it. I do also care for the chapter concerning Beren and Lúthien. It's just awesome. I just simply love Húin, and his devotion. The chapter about Maeglin also appeals to me. I am falling for all those 'crying scene' chapters, ain't I? Anyway, what's you fav chapter? Nova

*would say something, but all her favourite chapters have already been listed*
I find myself taking a lot to the chapter concerning Túrin, though...

The one of Luthien and Beren of course--not only because it mirrors the relationship shared by Arwen and Aragorn in the 3rd Age--which is the Lord of the Rings. It may be seen as a type of Shakespearean love--but altogether it is original and exceptional... I also like the coming of The Elves--mostly when it talked about the Noldor (which is Galadriel's kin). It really gives the true meaning of what it is to be an elf. They are not at all perfect and made alot of mistakes in the early days of Ea (i.e., when Feanor and his sons persuaded the Noldor to leave Valinor and when he slew the sea elves--which angered the Teleri and mostly the Valar...but Manwe still took pity on them). My favorite Vala are Manwe and Ulmo--I don't even have to delv in great detail about why I like them so much

Chapter 19, Of Beren and Luthien, for reasons stated above. Its also the only chapter I could sort of clearly follow. There are sooo many people and places!

You people can actually choose favourite chapters in a book? I don't think I could do that for any book. Though I may be able to pick out ones which definitely aren't my favourite.
No, I haven't read the Silm so no, I can't really add anything to the discussion.

You really should read it. The book gives you more appreciation for Tolkien and Middle-earth. It is a very beautiful novel.
