Hi all, this will be the discussion thread for my new RPG, "A Shadow in the Forest." For those that don't know me, I am Eruanne, a.k.a. Hirilaelin, a lover of RPG. Now, on to business!
Plot: This RP will take place in the forest of Mirkwood, home of the silvan elves, and the major hot elf Legolas! (Though he won't be joining us in this particular game) The mission of the elves of Mirkwood: Distroy Dol Guldur, a stronghold of the dark lord Sauron, now destroyed. This fortress is still a place of evil and terror, and the elves are to destroy it, with the help of several wizards. They will explore the fortress, have councils, meet evil servants of Sauron, in short, do what elves do. This game will end with the destruction of Dol Guldur.
Time: About twenty years after the War of the Ring.
Place: Mirkwood.
Characters needed: Elves in plenty, a few evil minions, and a wizard or two.
I will play one character, a female Istari. (Wizard)
Name: I need suggestions! Don't know any female Istari names...
Age: Who knows?
Weapons: Staff
Description: Long hair, light brown/red. Fair skin, likes to wear reds and greys. Is wise, but young.

Suilad! I am Maikafanawen (doh!), I loove RPGs! This is also the character I'm using in my Barrowdowns RPG. If you like her cool, if not, I got more ideas too!
Name: Ani Dao, of the race of Mirkwoodian Elves, female
Age: about 2700
Description (Appearance): Ani Dao has long, Mirkwood blonde hair. She’s tall and has sun-tanned skin from traveling and hunting all throughout Mirkwood. She has a narrow, stern looking face with big deep blue eyes. She’s not elegantly beautiful like Luthien, or Galadriel, but is still attractive.
Personality: She is the daughter of the Head Guard in Mirkwood. Being trained along side famous elves like Legolas, she has a sort of high opinion of herself. After completing the regular training, most of the guards, and warriors of Mirkwood receive, she went on to train privately to become an “assassin” used by the king for protection. However, she was rarely used, and spent her spare time practicing the art of comabt and reading. Ani Dao is usually interested in her own benefits.
Weapons, skills: Her favorite weapons are her throwing knives. She has deadly aim, and is able to throw extremely far distances. This tough warrior she-elf, has had mandatory training with a sword, but does not like to use it often. She also carries a bow and quiver, but uses them mostly for hunting. When confronted with face-to-face combat, she uses a highly developed form of elven martial arts. She wears little armor, save for the brown leather vest she dons over her dark green tunic. Her footwear consists of dark, boots made of an unknown substance she received from her private assassin trainer. They make no sound when she walks. Ani Dao is very strong, brave, and cunning, but extremely tempremental and impatient.
When strangers begin to arrive in Thranduil's Realm, requesting to do what got her brother and friends killed only three months ago, she is at first determine to stop it. But when Idhren, Elentari, and Ravenne convince Thranduil that it must be done, she is reluctant to be a part of the company. Lakr Bo, however offers himself to the group, and Ani Dao is forced to join. She immediately dedicates herself to success, and becomes a valuable team mate.
--If you really really need me to changer her I will, but I like her so, if I have to change too much, I'll probably just think up another character. I know Piosenniel really didn't like the assassin part. But it's not a mean assassin, it's a faithful-to-the-king assassin. Okay that's all --

Thanks Fanawen! May I call you Fanawen? Anyway, neat character! Sounds like a valuble addition to the team. As for the assassin issue: Oooh! That is so cool! Adds an interesting twist to the character. Keep it!
By the way, would you have any ideas for a name ofr my character, cause I'm fresh out. I mean, I can't just call her Gandalf! I mean, I could, but ew! I'm also thinking about playing an additional character, an evil minion, sort of a ruler left behind, if you will.
Name: Shirinarsh.
Age: Old.
Title: Chief Minion of Dol Guldur.
Description: Kind of a Barrowwightish thing, but not exactly. He actually has a physical form.
Personality: Need I describe it? He has a high opinion of himself, and grand ideas.

Personality: She's quite shy, but loves adverture. Loves to make friends too. Very gentile with good natre and a kind heart. Strong in battle.
Appearance: Light ash-grey eyes. Long blonde hair and average height. Wears a forest green dress.
History: Ran away when she was forced to sail with her guardian, as her parents had died. Hid in the green dragon where she met some new friends, including Ani Dao who she has now followed back to Mirkwood.

OK OK I admit it I am a Roleplay virgin even though I have been a member of the Barrowdowns and suchlike. But you guys will tell me what to do or if i make a outrageous rolrplay fauxpas won't you?
Name: Ravenne, just that, she is an Elf wanderer, who specialises in herbs and their uses, is a healer and wise woman.
Age: Know one knows, except possibly herself, but even that is dubious.
Appearance: Tall and willowy, young in looks but shows great age when you look into her eyes, she has floorlength silver hair and light purple eyes, she is elegant, but moves with the speed of a wild animal when threatened or in need. Carries a dragonhide shoulderbag for her herbs, and wears a silver ring around her neck, the reason? no one knows.
Personality: Seems dreamy but is sharp when questioned, Is often in her own world but is always listening and can surprise you. Doesn't take offence easily but will not tolerate deliberate ignorance.
Weapons/skills: Apart from herblore she has a quarterstaff which doubles as a walkingstick, she uses her knowledge of the world and has a certain degree of intuition.
She has decided to join this quest, partly through curiosity and partly from her intuition which gives her the feeling she will be needed.

Name: Lakr Bo, male elf of Mirkwood,
Age: 2300 approximately
Weapons/Description/Personality: Is very fair in appearance. Gorgeous actually, with deep blue eyes and long blonde hair, half of it pulled back and plaited. He is tall and quick. A very fast runner and has much skill with a bow. He works as well with a sword, and is good at hand to hand combat. He is not very strong or tough, but has the average endurance of the elves. Lakr Bo is very quiet and seductive. His background is unknown. He was given to Thranduil by a wandering also unknown Maiar and told to bring up in Mirkwood. Adopting the child, Thranduil brought him up as his own with Legolas. Lakr Bo and Legolas were very competetive, and Legolas usually triumphed, for he held his father's true favor. When Legolas went to journey to Imladris, Lakr Bo stayed behind with his closest friend Ani Dao. After a while, Ani Dao became anxious and left too. Lakr Bo decided to stay. Now that Ani Dao is back, they are very close and are determined to save Mirkwood together.
I wonder if I should have Ani Dao and Lakr Bo fall in love? Ah, I don't know. Well do you like him Eruanne? I know we needed some guys so here's one perhaps?

oh, I can join ANOTHER RPG, how fun and foolish . Can I be evil? I've not been evil in a while <--- that's the closest to evil I could get. Any way, how about a spider, are spiders sentient beings? I don't know, here he is if I'm allowed a spider:
Name: I know what it sounds like but it's not exactly possible to pronounce it, not that you'd want to stick around and find out anyway. Spider will do just fine.
Age: Who cares? He certainly doesn't.
Description: A spider about the size of a cart, do I really need to say any more?
Personality: Very much a bully among the local spiders, most steer clear of him (if they don't they're killed). Favourite food is elves, though he will settle for a horse if that's what comes his way, will in fact settle for anything remotely edible which comes his way. He acts mostly on instinct though there is some amount of cunning when needed (not often). He hangs aroud Dol Guldur mostly, wandering further afield in search of food as not much goes by his 'home'. Not inherantly 'evil', that's just how his dinner would see him.
Weapons/skills: Poison fangs, webbing (sounds like spiderman) despite his size he can move quickly and quietly through the trees, sometimes appearing as no more than a blur, he more often than not uses stealth to catch prey.

Wow everyone, this looks so good! All the characters are great! Purple Elf, your main weapon is a quarterstaff/magic staf too?!?!?! My character's weapon is always a quarterstaff, nomatter what RPG I'm in. Just one of my quirks! I get so sick of ancient mystical sword though... Not to dis anyone though!
Well Maikafanawen, mainly by stealth and magic, though if you want to recruit other races you certainly may! And the character sounds good. Ah, young love! Wait, elves aren't exactly young persay... lol!
Yay dragoneyes, another evil person! We will kick those stupid elves and wizards straight out of our lovely evil nasty fortress!

Her staff hmmm....
She does not like to call it a magic staff persay, but it focuses her raw natural energy so she can do things that require willpower, like... breaking down walls or opening locked doors, but it is not like a wizards staff, ie shoots fire from end and can do pretty displays of coloured sparks etc. Which she sees as distasteful

i would just like to play a small part in this if that is possible. i am not good at coming up with a character. i can be someone evil and dies or something. i really dont even know what i am saying. i am tired but.... i dont know.

Personality: She is very kind and is now in complete control of her power. She is a courageous fighter and will defend her friends. She hates to see people unhappy and will try to cheer them up. She loves animals and has a very strong bond with her horse – in fact the can mind-speak to each other!
Appearance: Tall with bright, blue eyes and long blonde hair. She is very pretty. She wears a forest green dress and a necklace with her name inscribed into in Elvish. I've odne a pic of her in anime, but it's not very good. It gives you an idea of what she looks like though! Elentari
Weapons: She has a sword named Star, which has a nicely decorated hilt, and it has had Elvish inscribed on it’s flat (a spell of some sort). She also carries a bow and arrows of swift flight. If she wishes, she can use her magic in battle, but she rarely does this since she nearly hurt a ranger who turned out to be a good friend.
Other items: She has a horse called Moon (a pure white horse) who she has a very special bond with. She likes to travel light, but carries food supplies in a small bag at her side on long journeys. She carries some herbs for healing – an old friend named Lorin taught her much she never knew about healing.
History: Grew up in Rivendell, but her, her family and her loved one sailed to valar. However, she realised how much suffering there truly was in Middle Earth, so she returned. She became a lonely wanderer after she was shunned by the Mirkwood Elves. She lived in the very heart of Mirkwood with only her horse for company until she joined Arawil the Maia’s quest to slay Shelob in Cirith Ungol. See Cirith Ungol

Appearence:ugly. very ugly. and very evil.

Purple Elf: about the poison, would it be possibke for you to ( a ) Use it up or ( b ) lose it. I feel it would be slightly unfair on my character if you have that on you (not that fairness matters but if my character's going to die, it wouldn't be "ooh big spider! Let's throw dust at it!" )
now, about Lorin, a bio's pointless but I thought as Elentari's having Elentari, I may as well have my character from that same RPG. She was one of the group who went with Arawil to kill Shelob. She was originally a messenger for Thranduil, but she left on the quest to kill Shelob. While on this quest, she met Elentari, Minyatalion (Min) and various others. Min didn't go all the way to Cirith Ungol, but she did and while there she lost her right hand (Shelob was standing on it, trapping her and she had to cut it off to get away). They came back having killed Shelob and were held with much greater respect. Since then, Lorin has married Min and settled down to a nice calm life as one of Thranduil's advisors, which is how I intend to bring her in. I do blabber a bit don't I?

Dragoneyes: All her poison is used up as there was a lot of spiders in mirkwood, and she cannot make anymore because she needs to collect seaweed for it and cannot get to the sea! dammit, her herbs are now limited to what she has in her bag and what she can gather in Mirkwood, she doesn't need it anymore anyway as she has people to fight them off now.
P.S. how can we stop killing spiders if they keep attacking us?

I feel ... tension. This is moving along slowly? or is it just me? We need to start talking about exactly how we're going to go about doing this. Our most activie participants are evil minions and do not even have big heroic parts, which I might like to point out are exactly that. Evil must be conquered, so that is why it is unfair, understand dragoneyes? In the plot summary it says that this RPG will end when "Dol Guldor is destroyed" therefore it must be destroyed. The heros must work together, and use the discussion thread to develop the story. Just a reminder. I just got my internet back after being grounded from it for a couple weeks and will help get things going right away. I feel like a damn BD moderator. Someone strangle me!

Hey thanks for letting me join, I havn't been on as i've been i'll recently so havn't been in a state to , So heres my bio and i'll try and catch up to you on the Rpg and add a part.

Description: Firstly she's an elf, Shes tall, with long black hair and green eyes, shes an Elven Ranger and dresses accoudingly so considered a bit unuseual, though she doesn't appear strong enough to lift her sword she is actually very strong and seems to be able to live and keep going at a fast pace on hardly anything, the only other striking feature on her is the tato that is found on her right forarm, its a black flower. She doens't know which part of middle earth she is from as her parents were murderd while they were traveling and she was to young even for an elf to remeber where they came from or were going.
Personality:Huntress is strong willed and resourceful, she appears quiet secretive and can act a little hostile without meaning to due to been a little shy of people part of her secretivness is not discloing her real name she has trust issues, though calm and level headed most of the time when angered she becomes reckless and hot headed this useally occurs in battle but is still a great fighter, stuborn even when knows she wrong and never gives up even when odds are against her, Though huntress can appear aloof she cares alot about the poeple around her and is unlikely to abandon them and always ready to defend them no matter what.
Weopens/ Skills: Like most elves Huntress is great with a bow but she prefers to use the sword which she has great skill with for someone so young, as well as the sword she carrys a number of daggers which cross as throwing knives (having spent a small amount of time as an assasin), her last weopen is the martial arts she learnt but she only uses them if anyone gets close enough. Altogether a good memeber of a team always ready to fight

Right i finally have a choice of two elvish names but i need some help deciding which one to choose so here they are
Nindeterel: this i got with help from Purple Elf its derived from my actual name and so my actual elvin name
Farothwen: or this which was recomended to me by Maikafanawen and Eruanne, and it basically means maiden that hunts, something along that lines.
So if you could say which one you thinks the best to use and i make a final decision and use that in the rpg thanks

Well i finally made my choice, i took into consideration what you said and I liked the Strider comparison. Sooooo I've fianlly decided to go with Farothwen

This is one of the most free-for-all RPGs I've ever been in with super-heros and sorcerers. LoL. Go to the barrowdowns and read some RPGs to get some ideas maybe?

Elentari: Maybe they can become friends during the expedition, but Ani Dao doesn't even want to go and ends up going only because Lakr Bo decides to. In my second post, Gyld goes, giving Ani Dao the choice to go with her, but she doesn't. The same thing almost happens again with Lakr Bo but this time she goes.

I'm here! I'm really sorry that I haven't been here, but the popups make my computer do strange things, and I've been having a busy life.
Anyway, the post for the council should be up by the end of today. I don't know exactly how everyone's char. will react, so it's going to be rather short, and then people can post as their character would, as to get an idea of people's views. Sound good?

*sigh* Nienor is the only one who has posted in the RPG for the past eleven days! If we were to follow Barrowdowning proceedures for this kind of situation, all but Neinor (and as of now, me) would be killed off if they do not post in three days. What do you think Nienor? Just because we don't have Barrowdown Nazis here yelling at everyone to stay in line, doesn't mean we can just leave it until we feel like coming back to it. If no one posts is three days (that makes two weeks from the last post) I think I'm going to pull out of this RPG. Someone pleeeeeeeeeease post.

Hello all! This board is really a relief, I can post now. My computer couldn't handle the popups...  Anyway, I just posted for Shirinarsh, any questions/comments/concerns?
