RotK facts, spoilers or anything related « Thread Started on Dec 7, 2003, 8:34am »
Well this is just a thread to discuss the coming RotK. You can discuss anything (e.g. facts, things said, spoilers etc) you wish as long as it is related to RotK.
Everything has been leading up to this its taken five years, a R2 billion (whats R2 billion in $?) budget, thousands of pairs of hobbit feet and endless patience on the part of the fans ! But at last the wait is almost over the long wait! Brace yourself for murderous spiders, betrayal, madness and a final bloody battle which according to those in the know is going to make all previous epic fight scenes look like a hobbit family picnic.
After a three bum-numbing hours of drama it will al be over good will triumph over evil and the world will be a safer place again. The Return of the King is being billed as the saddest and most harrowing episode in the series. Its expected to be one of the front runners in the best picture race at the next years Academy Awards.
Us fans are on tenterhooks to see what the monstrous spider looks like so far no pictures have been released of and all we know for sure is that like Gollum shes a digital creation. And given that Peter Jackson suffers from arachnophobia these scenes are bound to be, um, creepy. Peter says that the shelob shots did scare him and made him want to flinch. While the two hobbits pit their wits against the awful arachnid, Gandalf, Aragorn, Gimli and Legolas are gearing up for the battle of Minas Tirith in which their small group fights off the dark Lords army of 200 000. It took the film crew of hundreds of experts roughly six months to build Minas Tirith and mastermind the battle. No expense is spared and after all that hard work the end result is so terrifyingly realistic its being ranked as one of the most exciting war scenes ever to be brought to the big screen.
Here are some facts
- The first two films scored 19 Oscar nominations and won six. Together theyve both grossed more than $1, 8 billion worldwide, making it the most successful fantasy series since Star Wars. Wowee imagine making that much money.
- More than 2 400 people were involved in the trilogy
- A special weaponry workshop was set up to produce 48 000 swords, scabbards, axes and shield; 900 suits of armour and 200 orc masks. Imagine playing with those o_O
- For the battle of Minas Tirith, digital effects were used to create he enemy army of 200 000.
- The scenes were filmed on a sheep farm. The catering team needed 1 440 eggs and 400 loaves of bread a day to prepare breakfast for the cast. Just breakfast what about Lunch?
- Liv Tyler (Arwen) revels it wasnt much fun kissing Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) because of his prickly facial hair.
- Many of the elf actors were hoping to keep there pointy ears as mementos but unfortunately because they were made of gelatine the melted.
- Live Tyler (Arwen) hated her long elvish robes. Its so hard to walk gracefully when your tripping ever two seconds she sad. I would be trying to look all ethereal and then I would trip and scream, Ah, this ******* dress! Then I would hear cut because they defiantly didnt us the f word in middle earth. Or do they o_O?

There was a huge interview with PJ in Empire, and in that he said Shelob was everything that terrified him about spiders rolled into one horrid creature. And for an arachnaphob, I'd reckon that means it'll be pretty terrifying. I'll be back...

I propose that people who have seen the movie should be hereby banned from this thread and saying how good it is all over the place else I may become a large green monster of the dragonish kind.

Before I tell you of my accumilated knowledge I want to say one thing, Yes i am obsessed and yes I am proud. Injurys Viggo Mortenson *chipped front tooth when smacked in face with orc blade during Helm's Deep shooting. * Almost drowned when flooting down river in TTT. His cloak and blade were not counted when calculating where he would float to and so he went off course and smacked into a cliff, got pulled underwater and finally kicked up and lived. *Broke two toes when kicking orc helmet in TTT. Orlando Bloom *Broke two ribs when stunt Gimli fell on him after he fell off the horse in TTT. *Tipped over boats in FotR numerous times. Bernard Hill *8 stiches to the ear when Gamling smacked him in the ear with his sword on accident. Happened when filming Helms Deep scene. Sean Astin * Cut foot when running into the water. They were filming the scene when Sam runs to the boat and Sean stepped on a sharp rock or piece of glass and had to be flown in a helicopter to the hospital because of excessive bleeding. Elijah Wood was fascinated with a blood clot that came out of his foot, but Sean just said, "Mr. Frodo can play with my blood clot if he wants to." Dominic Monaghan *Splinter in foot when running down bridge to the Bucklebury Ferry. Was really painful for him, made everyone watch them pull it out because he thought the splinter would be huge. But it turned out to be really small, so whenever he would look like he was in pain or sweating Billy Boyd would say, "Are you all right, Splinter?" *Sore bottom and unmetionables from riding on Treebeard. There was a bicycle seat where he and Billy could sit on when filming the Treebeard scenes and the bicycle seat was really uncomfortable. Stunt Crew *Tons of injurys, to many to name. But with out them there would be no fight scenes. Stunt Gimli/Brent *almost drowned in FotR. Boat tipped over because of currents and Orlando Bloom pulled him up because his heavy chain mail was making him sink. * Hurt is knee in FotR Facts- *After flying through turbulance in the helicopters Sean Bean refused to ride a helicopter and climbed the mountians instead. *When shooting the scene where Sam and Rosie get married Viggo and Billy went to watch and support them. On one of the takes Viggo kissed Billy! (on the lips) *Andy Serkins actully accidentally pulled of Sean Astins wig when filming The Black Gates are Closed scene. *Liv Taylor was not allowed on a horse so when we see Arwen riding it is actully Liv Taylor on a barrel pulling a horse's head. *Viggo head-butted everyone, causing Orlando Bloom to see the white light. *Liv Taylor shot scenes at Helm's Deep but they did not go into the movies, PJ wanted more Arwen in the film but in the end decided that prolonged waiting made the movies better. *It took 1 and a half to two hours to apply the hobbit feet. *Bilbo's birthday party was shot in a warehouse, not out doors. *When filming the part where the firework goes off with Merry and Pippin, Billy Boyd got so scared he let out a girlish squeal. * After practicing sword fighting at the gym Viggo was walking to his car with his sword and practicing someone called the police on him. (Its late, I'm tired, I'll write later.)
Silver flow the streams from Celos to Erui, In the green fields of Lebennin! Tall grows the grass there. In the wind from the Sea The white lilies sway, And the golden bells are shaken of mallos and alfirin In the green fields of Lebennin, In the wind from the Sea!
